Community Water Supply
Like
many poor villages in Sri Lanka, the lack of fresh drinking water is a major
problem in Embilipitiya and its surrounding areas. With aid from the World Bank,
through the Sri Lanka government, the Sri Bodhiraja Foundation has implemented a
number of community water supply project to supply pipe-borne drinking water to
“Darsanagama” village. These community participation schemes are assisted by
CWSSP of the Ministry of Housing and Construction and the World Bank. To date,
more than 3000 families have benefited from these projects. Eight more water
supply programmes are implemented in an area covering 31 villages, serving
more than 37 000 people.
